In AFK Journey, the Primal Lord event features the Alpha Bear as one of its formidable bosses. This guide will walk you through the event mechanics and provide strategies to defeat the Alpha Bear effectively.
Primal Lord System
The Primal Lord event is a server-wide boss-killing challenge. Your objective is to defeat the Raid Boss that spawns on the world map as quickly as possible. The faster your server defeats the boss, the greater the rewards for everyone involved.
- You can challenge the Primal Lord up to 3 times a day.
- After each challenge, you will immediately receive personal rewards based on the damage dealt. These rewards include
Essence, 
Gold, 
EXP, and equipment chests. - Players are ranked based on the total damage dealt during the event.
- The top 20 players earn the special title “Bear Hunter,” while the top 200 players receive a unique border and various amounts of
Twilight Essence. - Once the Primal Boss is defeated, an Eternal Inscription will appear, recording the names of the top 20 damage dealers.
- Server rewards include
Diamonds, 
Invite Letters, A-Level Soulstones, and equipment chests.
Alpha Bear Guide
The Alpha Bear is one of the two Primal Lord bosses you will encounter. Below, we outline its mechanics and the best strategies to tackle it.
Alpha Bear Boss Mechanics
- Ultimate: Summons a swarm that deals 80% damage per second to each enemy covered in honey for 3 seconds. If all enemy heroes are marked with honey, a mega swarm is summoned, dealing 250% damage per second until the end of the battle.
- Skill 1: Throws honey at an enemy hero, marking them for the rest of the battle and dealing 100% damage. Healing received by the marked enemy is reduced by 80% and cannot be dispelled.
- Skill 2: Throws honey at adjacent enemies, dealing 50% damage and marking them. If there are no adjacent enemies, smashes the ground, dealing 400% damage to all enemies.
- Skill 3: Creates and pulls a Terraball towards the enemy, dealing 100% damage to all enemies in its path.
Tips and Tricks
- Tank Strategy: Use a character with a range of 1 to tank the boss. This prevents the Alpha Bear from using its massive AoE attack (Skill 2), as you need someone constantly close to the boss.
- Avoid Melee Damage Dealers: Avoid using damage dealers with a range of 1 as they struggle to survive close to the boss.
- Shields Over Healing: Since the boss reduces healing, characters that provide shields are invaluable.
- Survivability and Utility: Choose damage dealers who can sustain themselves and offer additional utility to the team.

Best Heroes against Alpha Bear
In many situations, the characters with the highest number of duplicates will perform best, as they’ll survive longer and deal more damage.
While we provide suggestions for optimal characters against this boss, sometimes using your most ascended characters will be more effective. For instance, if you’ve invested heavily in 
Cecia, she might be your top damage dealer. Keep this in mind as you plan your team.
Damage Dealers
Use your most ascended DPS characters. If they can also sustain themselves, they’ll be even more effective.
Smokey & Meerky: Not a mistake! With their EX weapon unlocked, they not only heal but also deal damage with their Aura.
Korin: Great damage dealer (especially at Mythic+), with a range of 2 to avoid melee range danger. His shields are a significant team asset.
Odie and 
Marilee: Excellent ranged DPS characters with high single-target damage, particularly effective in Dream Realm. Marilee outperforms at higher investment levels, while Odie is better at lower investment due to faction bonuses when used with Smokey & Meerky and 
Koko.
Vala: Excellent damage output, especially effective when the boss’s HP drops below 50%, as she stays in sword mode.
Supports / Healers
For free-to-play (F2P) players, it’s advisable to run two support characters due to the constant honey damage over time (DoT). This will help you survive longer. For those who spend and have highly ascended characters, using just Smokey & Meerky might be sufficient to keep your team alive.
- Smokey & Meerky: They are essential for any team facing this boss. Their healing and buffs are crucial for team survival.
- Koko: Shines for F2P players by reducing the damage taken by the whole team through staggering, allowing everyone to last longer and deal more damage.
Debuffers
Reinier: At Mythic+, Reinier is a top-tier boss fighter, though currently, only spenders can afford to ascend him to this level.
Kruger or 
Thoran: Good alternatives for everyone else, both doubling as frontline defenders.
Best Sample Teams for Primal Lord Alpha Bear
Free-to-play Team
As mentioned earlier, free-to-play or early game players will need two healers to keep the team alive. Here are the roles you want to cover:
- x2 Supports
- x1 Debuffer
- x1 Tank
- x2 DPS
Main Healer and DPS: Smokey & Meerky acts as the main healer and, at Mythic+, also serves as a DPS for the team.
Support: Koko provides Life Drain, Damage Reduction, and shields (at Mythic+), doubling up as support.
Tank and Debuffer: Thoran serves as both the tank and debuffer. If your Thoran is too weak, you can try using Kruger instead.
Damage Dealer and Shielder: Korin is a damage dealer and shielder. While his full potential is unlocked at Mythic+, his shields make him a valuable pick even before that.
Damage Dealer: Odie serves as the main damage dealer. If your Odie isn’t ascended enough, you can use Cecia or Marilee if you’ve invested in them.
Starshard Spell: Use this artifact in the team mentioned above.
Spender Team
For spenders with a Mythic+ Reinier, this team setup is highly effective. Special thanks to Zeeebo for the team composition! Interestingly, Koko is used as a tank, teleported to the frontline by Reinier. She can tank effectively while providing buffs and shields to the team.
Main Healer and DPS: Smokey & Meerky serves as the main healer and, at Mythic+, also acts as a DPS for the team.
Tank, Buffer, and Shielder: Koko is utilized as the tank and provides essential buffs and shields.
Damage Dealer and Shielder: Korin doubles up as a damage dealer and shielder, adding both offense and defense to the team.
Damage Dealer: Marilee is the primary damage dealer, outperforming Odie at higher investment levels.
Switch to Vala
