Investing Guide
EX Weapon Investment
Priority | PVE Investment | PVP Investment |
Medium | +8 | +8 |
Given the scarcity of Temporal Essence and Twilight Essence, careful consideration is crucial when upgrading EX weapons. This guide ranks characters by their dependency on EX weapon upgrades for optimal performance, outlining the most cost-effective stopping points to maximize return on investment.
A commonly recommended milestone is the +8 upgrade level.
This breakpoint is emphasized because the statistical enhancements provided by upgrading the EX weapon often surpass the benefits of the passive abilities. Additionally, advancing the EX weapon from +5 to +8 requires only 30 Temporal Essences. In contrast, progressing to the final two levels demands an extra 45 Temporal Essences. Therefore, halting upgrades at +8 offers a significant efficiency, ensuring you utilize your resources without excessive expenditure.
Overview
Pros
- Unique Wall Creation: Can create barriers to disrupt enemy formations.
- Effective Crowd Control: Capable of locking down a single target.
- High Burst Damage: Delivers significant damage quickly, especially with a CC-heavy team.
Cons
- High Investment Needed: Requires substantial resources to maximize effectiveness.
- Manual or Luck-Based: Performance can depend on manual control or luck.
- Limited Against Bosses: Many skills are ineffective on bosses, reducing her overall utility.
Alsa stands out in the Mauler faction as a Mage focused on control and disruption, offering a distinct playstyle compared to traditional burst mages. Instead of solely relying on high-damage spells, Alsa balances continuous damage, self-sustain, and control abilities.
This unique blend can make her somewhat tricky to integrate into teams, and depending on the game mode, she may require more strategic planning to be effective. Nevertheless, her kit offers intriguing mechanics that warrant a closer look.
The key feature of Alsa’s abilities is her “Stone Barrier” skill, which creates terrain obstacles. This power can disrupt enemy formations and even isolate specific targets, providing a tactical advantage in certain stages or PvP encounters. However, this skill does come with a few drawbacks. One major issue is that for optimal use, Alsa often requires manual control. Additionally, as of now, there aren’t any characters who can directly benefit from these terrain modifications. However, with the future introduction of Soren, who will have a kit that synergizes with collision effects, Alsa’s potential versatility is expected to increase. Lastly, these barriers can sometimes hinder your own melee heroes, forcing them to take longer routes to reach enemies.
Another significant aspect of Alsa’s abilities is her mobility across the battlefield. After activating her Ultimate, “Twirling Rocks,” she gains two new skills: “Combat Stance” and “Swift Evasion.” The more you invest in Alsa, the more effective these skills become, particularly with her EX weapon enhancements. At EX +5, “Combat Stance” enables her to lock down a target, although this again may require manual intervention. “Swift Evasion,” which triggers every 7 seconds (reduced to 6 seconds at EX +10, though this isnโt a high-priority upgrade), allows Alsa to roll out of danger while gaining a protective shield. Depending on the situation, this can either significantly enhance her survivability or, occasionally, lead her into risky situations.
When building a team around Alsa, there are two main considerations. First, she requires a strong frontline to draw enemy attention away from her, ideally one that can also provide additional boosts or survivability. Excellent choices for this role include Thoran, Scarlita, Brutus, Shakir, and Eironn.
The second consideration is synergy, particularly with other control-oriented characters. Similar to Carolina, Alsa benefits from having as much crowd control as possible within her team. Eironn is a noteworthy mention here, as his ultimate at M+ tier can set up Alsa for an early burst with her “Rolling Boulder” skill. Other strong synergy options include Soren, Cecia, Reinier, [smokey & meerky], Rhys, and Cassadee.
Conclusion
Alsa holds significant potential for future updates as more characters are introduced that can benefit from terrain manipulation and control effects. She is a valuable asset in PvP and can be a game-changer in PvE scenarios, although she does have some limitations. Her damage output against bosses is respectable but not top-tier, as bosses’ immunity to crowd control prevents her from leveraging her primary burst sources, such as “Rolling Boulder” and her S+ passive. Despite this, she may still be a strong candidate for Battle Drills due to her versatility and quick clear times.
Currently, Alsa is not considered a must-pull and is not recommended for F2P players or those on a budget to prioritize in rate-up banners. However, if you have the resources and are interested in investing in her, she can still be a valuable addition to your roster.
